SOUTH TYROL FOR CULTURE VULTURES
Sitting on the border between two very different worlds, South Tyrol is a land of cultural blending where Teutonic efficiency and Gothic style meet the Italian love of all things beautiful, fine, and tasty. Alongside a rich palette of yearly events and culinary highlights, the local cultural and artistic heritage runs the gamut from castles and churches to museums and galleries. Here are a few tips for your holiday calendar:
Water Light Festival
Mid-May – Brixen, historic centre
South Tyrolean and international artists celebrate water as a vital source with light installations turning the historic centre’s fountains into magical artworks of water and light.
MountainBIKE Testival
Late September, Brixen – Plose
The MountainBIKE Testival is a must for any mountain biker visiting South Tyrol in late September. The main event is held in the cathedral square and includes guided tours and test trials with the latest bike models as well as a rich fringe programme.
Bread and strudel market
Early October, Cathedral square in Brixen
Sample traditional South Tyrolean bakery products, from Schüttelbrot to apple strudel, and enjoy a culinary-themed day out with interesting fringe events.
Festivals and culinary weeks
...in the Eisacktal and Pustertal valleys
In South Tyrol, we like to party. Each town has its own festival: the Altstadfest in Brixen, the Town Festival in Bruneck and the Marktlfest in Mühlbach are a great way to spend a day out and participate in local life. Also, make the most of our balmy summer evenings by visiting Brixen on one of its weekly white nights: evenings of live music, entertainment, traditional cuisine and late-night shopping.
The Eisacktal valley has several treats in store for foodies, with a variety of events ranging from the “Pustertal Potato Weeks” to the “Apple Festival” in Natz-Schabs and a series of wine tasting events.
