SUMMER HOLIDAYS
in South Tyrol
Warm sunshine, fresh air and breathtaking views!
Escape the city’s choking heat and retreat to the mountains for a back-to-nature summer break! If you are after the perfect destination for a hiking holiday, the Eisacktal valley in South Tyrol is just the thing. Dizzy heights and craggy rocks alternate with rolling hills and verdant pastures dotted with wild flowers… stand by to be amazed. Local attractions include Mt. Plose, the Rio Pusteria holiday area, the Rodeneck and Villander plateaus and several peaks topping 2,000 and even 3,000 metres.
A family-friendly paradise
Your hiking holiday can be as energetic or relaxing as you want it to be. Brave the most nail-biting climbs or take a more gentle walk through the pastures to a mountain hut. Why not mix the two? Mt. Plose, the Rio Pusteria hiking area, the Villanders Alp… the landscape will vary depending on which setting you choose, but the Dolomites will always be there to add an extra scenic touch. If you are travelling with your children, you will find that South Tyrol is a family-friendly holiday area providing plenty of child-oriented services and entertainment. The Woody Walk on the Plose, for instance, is a circular path with a variety of playing stations along the way, including a barefoot trail, a pond, a climbing tree and much more.
Mountain bikes
...city bikes and mountain carts
For some people, the word “mountain” immediately evokes the image of thrilling downhill rides. If you are one of them, then you should add the Plose’s Brixen Bike Park to your bucket list. Besides the original sky line, three new exciting trails have been added that will give you the adrenaline kick you are after. During the summer season, the mountain cart trail offers the perfect attraction for a family day out. Mountain carts are three-wheeled bikes with brakes that can be hired directly at the Plose lift mountain terminal and used to bolt downhill on a 9-kilometre ski run. Those who would rather explore the area by taking a leisurely ride can chose either the cycle path that leads to Klausen or one of the easy paths connecting the Alpine pastures. Too tired to pedal? We have that covered, too: E-bike rental shops are available in the area!
Water parks
...wild swimming and sunbathing
If you are visiting the Eisacktal valley in the summer, you will find plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures and opportunities for a refreshing dip. Why not visit the Mühlbach open-air swimming pool or the Acquarena in Brixen – a water park complete with slides, diving boards and children’s attractions? If you prefer more natural surroundings, you could take a dip in the Lüsen lake, a small natural swimming pond tucked away in the woods, or try out the Kneipp course in the shady woodland near Vahrn.
